Book Review
For Young Readers
Aura Press has produced three wonderful books for early readers: Serach's Song, The Eentzy Weentzy Hider, and "Uh-uh. Not Now," Said the Cow.
Serach's Song tells the story of how Serach, granddaughter of the patriarch Jacob, told him that his son Joseph was alive. The Eentzy Weentzy Hider is the famous tale of how King David questioned G-d's creation of the spider. And "Uh-uh. Not Now" is the story of how a cow that kept Shabbos led to the conversion to Judaism of Rabbi Yochanan ben Tortha.
The books are written by the veteran author Yaffa Leba Gottlieb (writer of the bestselling Eli and Ohr).
Each book is geared to a different reading level. There are some punctuational inconsistencies, but other than that, these books are simply delicious. They are available at Judaica Bookstores, or through Aura Press at 718-435-9103. |

Halacha Hotline
May a blind person carry a cane outdoors on Shabbos? Does a child sit shivah for her adoptive parent? Are you permitted to use a microwave oven for both dairy and meat? Can you prepare food for your pet on Shabbos?
These are just a sampling of the questions that have been answered by the Halacha Hotline over the past thirteen years. Directed by Rabbi Yehoshua Wohl, the Halacha Hotline is staffed by five rabbis versed in the intricacies of Jewish law.
The Halacha Hotline fields about 100 calls a week on subjects from the mundane to the controversial. Rabbi Wohl says that he founded the service as a resource for questions related to marriage, divorce, and family purity laws. As word spread, calls came in on all different subjects.
The Halacha Hotline is privately funded and does not solicit donations. The telephone numbers are: 718-963-1236 and 212-425-2242. The office is located at 285 Broadway, Suite 3, Brooklyn, NY 11211.
